Review of Derelict
How to start a review on the first gloom map. Well, I started playing gloom when this map was forced upon the players. At that time both humans and spiders alike hated this map because it was too human oriented. Since then, I've changed servers and I don't have to play it as often. Now I look at it as fun. It also doesn't seem as human oriented as I once thought it to be. It may be time, "absence makes the heart grow fonder," or perhaps it's all the changes RXN has made to the game, either way, I enjoy this map now.
Since it was the first I can only assume that WhiteNoise created it with the sole purpose of testing all the classes on a map that he probably thought was very fair. Since the beginning map makers have found ways to help and hinder specific races and lighting and object placement is a standard consideration when a mapper sits down to their editor. Derelict was made very basic, but it remains very playable. One thing I do like is the lighting (most of which is on the floor, ouch there goes another kami). One thing I don't like is the main human hallway, we've all gotten stuck there, even humans do, it gets very annoying and it's too big to apply a clip brush. Besides that I enjoy this map, and it's probably one of the best maps for testing your skills. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, save it be right under your enemies nose. Also, the lack of relocation points kills the layout rating for this map. I'm sorry WhiteNoise, I'm sure you never counted on some little freak that got picked up by the GMD would be reviewing your map.
Aside from the layout the map remains well built and since it is so widely played it earns the GMD Seal of Approval. Clans: Enjoy.

Comment: A simple layout, 2 main rooms and a few halls.
Comment: I'm going to have to agree with a previous review and say: "It was the first gloom map of course it's creative.
Comment: Overall, a well done map. The lighting and brush structure continutes to draw me to gloom 1b.
